Standing waves can occur between parallel surfaces within the listening space, which result in low frequency resonances that create boominess. Loudspeakers with downward firing drive units, or in-wall mounted loudspeakers are particularly prone to exacerbating these modal resonances due to the fact they inject energy at or close to the reflecting surfaces, where modal maxima naturally occurs.
Resonance Control uses the dimensions of the listening space to calculate the frequencies of the primary modal resonances. DSP filtering is then applied to attenuate the problematic frequencies.
Unwanted resonance is greatly reduced, ensuring bass remains clean and powerful without the unnatural boominess or “boxiness” which, without Resonance Control, would be imparted by the parallel geometry of the floor and ceiling or walls.
