TRANSFORMING A WEST VILLAGE PENTHOUSE WITH MERIDIAN
Electronic Lifestyles collaborated with Meridian Audio to integrate a state-of-the-art audiovisual system in a New York living space. Located in the West Village, one of the most sought-after neighbourhoods in New York City, the sleek four-storey penthouse unites stunning city views with an excellent AV experience.
The homeowner was looking to create a seamless living environment that could effortlessly transition from daytime lounging to vibrant nighttime entertainment. The goal was to design a liveable space that maintained consistent quality and functionality regardless of the time of day, transforming the penthouse into a quintessential New York man cave.
Combining seamless aesthetics and acoustic fidelity, Electronic Lifestyles fitted three Meridian DSP520.2’s for the front soundstage, which offers the latest Meridian audio technologies including (FFA) Full Frequency Alignment. Powered by Meridian’s exclusive ‘CLASS-M’ DSP engine and integrated with ‘DYNAMIC’ Hi-Res amplifiers, the DSP520.2 is perfect for delivering Meridian's renowned audio quality discreetly in any living or cinema room. “We decided to work with Meridian because they have the right combination of performance and aesthetics for this environment,” commented Franklin Binns, Owner of Electronic Lifestyles.
To enhance the bass performance, a Meridian In-Wall DSW600 Subwoofer was integrated. This subwoofer utilises FFA Technology to provide powerful and precise bass. Completing the system, two Meridian In-Ceiling DSP320.2 speakers deliver high-quality surround sound with built-in amplification, ensuring impressive sound performance. The entire setup is coordinated through a Meridian G65 Surround Sound Processor, ensuring smooth operation.
Brightness proved to be a key challenge in this project due to the need to provide an outstanding audiovisual experience in both natural daylight from its large floor-to-ceiling windows and low-light evening conditions. Electronic Lifestyles worked closely with the architect and interior designer to ensure that every element of the AV system was thoughtfully integrated and found a solution in the installation of an advanced LED screen that could deliver high-quality visuals even in the brightest conditions. However, this created an acoustical challenge, which was easily resolved by Meridian’s Image Elevation technology. “We relied on Meridian’s Image Elevation technology, which was key to this project. Using this, we were able to locate the centre speaker below the LED wall, and we were still able to raise the voice dialogue to the perceived height, ensuring an undetached listening experience was obtained.”
Meridian’s Image Elevation technology uses psychoacoustically informed filtering to help convince the listener that the sound from a loudspeaker placed below a screen is actually coming from the image on screen. This results in a more life-like listening experience with a convincing soundstage and less fatigue.
