Meridian brought heritage and contemporary audio to Range Rover House Pebble Beach, installing original 1977 M1 loudspeakers alongside Batumi Gold DSP9s in the luxury brand's heritage experience during Monterey Car Week, the internationally renowned celebration of automobile heritage and luxury.
Range Rover House Pebble Beach showcased its newest models, while also featuring a nod to its storied heritage with a Provenance Room where vintage M1 speakers were paired with classic Range Rover vehicles from the same era.
Both brands started in the 1970s - Meridian in 1977, Range Rover in 1970.
Meridian supplied M1 loudspeakers - the world's first active speakers for the home - launched in 1977. At the time, nearly all other speakers relied on passive electronics and separate amplification. The M1 revolutionised home audio by integrating multiple amplifiers and precise electronic crossovers directly into the speaker cabinet, delivering performance that passive designs simply couldn't match.
This active approach became Meridian's signature technology and influenced the entire industry. The M1's principles influenced Meridian products throughout the decades and remain central to the company's ethos today.
The iconic M1s were placed in the Provenance Room alongside a 1970 Range Rover Suffix A and 1979 Range Rover Suffix F. DSP9s custom-finished in Range Rover's Batumi Gold in the main lounge handled entertainment and demonstrations, while black Ellipse streaming speakers provided ambient sound in wellness rooms and a statement gold Ellipse was placed at the main entrance.
"When Range Rover wanted to celebrate their heritage during Monterey Car Week, bringing our original M1 speakers felt like the natural choice," said Iwona Helfer, Partnership and Events Manager at Meridian Audio.
Through the week, Range Rover House welcomed VIP guests to spend time with the brand, see and test drive the latest models and enjoy a luxury experience.
Meridian has supplied audio to Jaguar Land Rover vehicles since 2010, and this Range Rover House in Pebble Beach presented a unique opportunity for both brands to showcase their heritage - using vintage products to tell the story of their shared evolution since the 70s.
"The collaboration demonstrated our shared approach to engineering excellence," added Helfer. "Whether it's our heritage M1s or current Range Rover audio systems, the focus remains on authentic sound reproduction through advanced technology."Range Rover House returned to Pebble Beach for the fourth year, this time in a striking venue within the coastal community. The 55th anniversary called for something special. Both companies started in the 1970s - Meridian in 1977, Range Rover in 1970.
