Denote transformed a challenging sandstone space into the extraordinary Blue Note Media Room, where bespoke audio technology meets artistic vision. This award-nominated project showcases how seamlessly integrated systems can elevate both form and function, creating an immersive experience that redefines luxury entertainment spaces.

A Sydney technology entrepreneur approached Denote with a unique challenge: create a media room that doubled as both a cinema and an office in his North Shore residence. The Blue Note Media Room earned nominations from both CEDIA APAC and CE Pro awards, establishing new standards for dual-purpose entertainment spaces.
Having successfully completed previous projects together, the client gave Denote complete creative freedom with a simple brief: design the ultimate system where performance, not budget, drove every decision.
The space, carved into Sydney's sandstone cliffs with spectacular harbour views, demanded a complete reimagining of traditional cinema design.
The project's inspiration was triggered when the client discovered Meridian's DSP8000 SE loudspeakers were available in Pearl Night Blue - perfectly matching his McLaren and company branding. This alignment sparked the entire design concept, with the room taking its name from the legendary Blue Note jazz label.
Most cinema installations hide speakers behind fabric or within walls. The Blue Note takes the opposite approach - celebrating Meridian's design as much as their performance. For a hi-fi connoisseur, Meridian speakers offer the perfect combination of sonic excellence and visual presence, making them a natural choice to become design features rather than hidden components.
Rather than concealing technology, Denote showcased it. The ceiling-mounted DSP3200s mirror the flagship towers' profile, creating symmetry between floor and ceiling that enhances both aesthetics and acoustic performance. Custom LED lighting transforms each speaker into a sculptural element, highlighting rather than hiding the technology.
The Blue Note takes cues from professional recording studios, using matched Meridian loudspeakers throughout to ensure tonal consistency. Every seating position is provided with the same exceptional clarity and precision.
The dual-purpose design works brilliantly. By day, it's an elegant workspace for business calls. By night, it transforms into a luxury cinema that rivals commercial theatres.
Visitor reactions are unanimous - amazement at both visual impact and acoustic performance. Despite previous experience with high-end systems, the owners discovered that home performance could reach levels they hadn't imagined possible.
The attention to detail is extraordinary. Custom brackets position each speaker precisely, while Christian Lacroix wallpaper creates a starscape backdrop.
Crystal fixtures and programmable LED scenes (named after Blue Note jazz classics) transform the atmosphere. Acoustic treatments blend seamlessly into the design, ensuring exceptional sound without visual compromise.
Every element works in harmony to create a space that's both technically flawless and emotionally engaging.
The Blue Note's success has already inspired the next chapter. The clients are now planning a larger home with an even more ambitious Meridian installation, proving that once you experience this level of integration between design and performance, anything less feels like a compromise.
